David C. White died at his home south of Crawfordsville, last   Friday, after many months of suffering from a malignant growth in   the throat. Mr. White was born at Burksville, Ky, June 15, 1852,   and came to this neighborhood several years ago. in 1876, he   married Mary T. Walden, who died in 1881, leaving two sons. In   1887, he marr. Mattie C. Gregory. Two children were born to them,   the youngest surviving. In early youth he joined the Baptist   Church and in 1891, united with the Christian Church, of which he   was a consistent member, and a man popular and respected. Funeral   services were held at the residence on Sunday, conducted by Rev.   Mr. Jayne. Interment in the Masonic Cemetery at   Crawfordsville. - transcribed by kbz

David C. White was born June 15, 1852, near Burksville, Cumberland County, Ky. He was married to Mary Waldon, November 2, 1876, she dying April 2, 1881, leaving two boys, surviving her. Then he was united in marriage to Mattie C. Gregory, December 12, 1887. This union was blessed with two children, she and the youngest surviving him. He confessed his faith in Christ in early youth and joined the Baptist Church. After he came to Indiana he united with the Christian Church in 1891 and lived a devoted Christian life until death. He was a pious and loving father, a kind and devoted husband, and was most dearly loved by those who knew him best.

Everything was done that kind hands and willing hearts could do for his comfort during his sickness, but all seemed in vain and great was his suffering, his death resulted from a malignant growth of the throat. He died January 20, 1899, aged 46 years, five months and five days. The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday, conducted by Rev. Jayne, of the Baptist Church of Brown’s Valley. The text was taken from Job, 14th chapter and 14th verse. Beautiful were the thoughts presented from this text, “If a man died, shall he live again.”

The deceased was a member of the Tribe of Ben-Hur. Mr. McMains and Mr. Gerard, of this order, were present. Mr. Gerard made quite an interesting talk on our friendship toward our fellowman, closing with comforting words to the bereaved family. Beautiful were the floral offerings from the order and friends. It was a most beautiful tribute to the dead and should be very comforting to the bereaved family. Interment was at the Masonic Cemetery at Crawfordsville. The family wishes to extend their many thanks to the friends and neighbors for their help and acts of kindness during the sickness and death of their husband and father. -s

David C. White, aged 50 years, died last Friday at his home four miles south of town. He leaves a wife and several children. The funeral occurred Sunday morning at 10:30 o’clock.
